    Front Windshield Tinting: Clear to Semi-Clear with UV and Heat Protection

    The front windshield is the largest and most critical window for heat reduction. Due to its size and curvature, it requires expert skill and precision for proper installation. In Hawaii, windshield tinting is legal and widely accepted at 70% LTV (Light Transmission Value) or higher.

    Our 86% specialty front windshield tint is within the legal limit, ensuring you’ll pass your safety inspection with ease. After installation, we’ll use a meter to confirm your windshield complies with all legal requirements.

    Maui Window Tint Safety Inspection Guide

    At Tint Masters Maui, we take the stress out of your annual Hawaii safety inspection. With 12 years of experience on the island, we ensure every vehicle we tint is 100% compliant with Hawaii Revised Statutes § 291-21.5.

    How We Test Your Tint

    When you bring your vehicle to a Maui safety inspection station, the inspector will look for any window film that appears too dark. If they have concerns, they will use a Visible Light Transmission (VLT) meter to measure exactly how much light passes through your glass.

    To ensure you pass every time, we use the same professional-grade meters during our installation process. We aim for the following standards:

    • Front Side Windows: These must allow at least 35% of light to pass through. Hawaii law allows a 6% variance, meaning a reading of 29% or higher is technically legal, but we recommend staying as close to 35% as possible to avoid disputes with inspectors.
    • Rear Side & Back Windows: For SUVs, trucks, and vans, there are no darkness restrictions on the rear windows, provided your vehicle has dual side mirrors. Under the 2025 Act 129 update, sedans now follow these same rules—you can go as dark as you’d like on the back half of your car!
    • Windshield: Tint is only allowed on the top 4 inches (or above the AS-1 line). It must be non-reflective and cannot interfere with your field of vision.

    Certificate of Compliance

    Hawaii law now requires all tint installers to provide a Certificate of Compliance. At Tint Masters Maui, we issue this certificate with every job. You are required to keep this in your glove box at all times. If you are ever pulled over or questioned during an inspection, this document is your "prima facie" evidence that your tint was installed legally by a professional.

    Our films are advanced and require expert installation techniques. Thus, timing and methods vary depending on film choice. Some of our films require delicate handling of over 200 layers without damage. 

    Extensive Post-Install Inspection

    Typically a 1 hour+ process, your vehicle will have both garage time and sun setting time to cure. At this time your vehicle will receive touch ups with our master installer, both on the inside and outside at different phases during the curing process.

    Final Touch Ups and Customer Service

    Your vehicle  receives yet another inspection and detailed cleaning and/or wash of your vehicle before pickup. You’ll also receive aftercare instructions!

    what to expect the day of your appointment

    PICKUP/TURNAROUND TIME

    Completion times are estimates, typically 1-2.5 days, as our specialty films require precise drying stages. Please choose a flexible day and allow us to notify you when your vehicle is ready. If you need it back by a specific time, schedule for a day we can work between 7 AM and 5 PM. For jobs needing more than a day, we’ll inform you during scheduling. Quality is always our top priority over speed. 

    ARRIVAL

    Please arrive several minutes early to confirm and choose your film selections and to check-in with our receptionist. You may be eligible for warranty paperwork that must be filled out prior to the install to be honored.

    REMOVE ITEMS

    Please remove all baby seats, large items, and personal belongings from your vehicle so we have unobstructed access to all windows. If we need to remove items we will not be responsible for reassembly. 

    CANCELLATION POLICY

    We ask that you provide at least 48 hours notice for any cancellations or rescheduling to avoid forfeiture of your non-refundable deposit. For cancellations prior to 48 hours before your appointment, your deposit will be applied towards your next appointment. 

    LATE POLICY

    If you are more than 15 minutes late for your appointment, we may not be able to accommodate you. In this case, the same cancellation fee may apply. 

    WINDOW STICKERS

    Please let us know if you have decals or stickers on any windows you'd like to keep on. In many cases we need to remove all window stickers to do a clean install. Unless otherwise requested, we will remove window stickers at our discretion.

    EARLY/LATE DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP

    We do have a lockbox available if you need to pick-up and drop-off during off hours.  Please note that parking your vehicle outside in our parking lot is at your own risk.  We do have cameras for security , however, that will not deter thieves.
